KORO’s commitment to local communities reflects the need for municipal planning activities to include a clear role for creative and aesthetic expertise. Through Flyfugl, the Municipality has sought to include precisely such expertise in the initial planning phases, both for blue-green infrastructure and for the area plans for the two neighbourhoods of Ytterhernes and Hernesmyra. The inclusion of artistic expertise in advisory teams was viewed as a standard requirement when the Muncipality was developing guidelines and criteria for the area development plan. The Muncipality wishes artists to participate actively in dialogue and community involvement and to ask questions about the regeneration process that the city is facing. Artists’ expertise and societal roles are important: as socially critical actors, custodians of knowledge, and innovators. In this way, the Municipality will come to grips with shaping the place’s functions, qualities and identity.
