Building a new airport provides a unique opportunity to work with artistic productions that extend over a long period of time and a broad geographical area. The development of Bodø’s new urban district of Hernes will continue over the next 50–100 years.
In this part of the project, we wish to explore the possibility of developing a large-scale land art project on the site of the new airport, in the new urban district, or both.
Enormous quantities of excavated soil, rock and other debris will be moved during the construction of the new airport and urban district. There will be blasting on land, and land will be reclaimed from the sea. Much of the construction work is already being documented via Avinor’s channels.
An artwork created in the landscape, especially if visible from the air during landing and take-off, could become a landmark, providing a bird’s-eye perspective on the ongoing transformation of the landscape.
